I'm from Dundee, Scotland, now living in Los Angeles with my
wife and son. After school I worked as a
croupier for six years interspersed with some World travel
before graduating from the
University of Edinburgh in
Geology in 2000. My
thesis was a study of multiple-event
metamorphism in the northwestern Italian Alps. After a further year
croupiering in
Cameroon I returned to study at the
University of Edinburgh
for a Master's
degree in Informatics. My
thesis was about recovering 3D structure
from 2D images. I then spent a year and a half as a
researcher in
computer graphics/vision
at the Edinburgh Virtual Environment Centre
(EdVEC) designing a system to
create compact but detailed 3D models from laser scans and digital
images (Hybrid Rendering).
Since 2005 I have been working as a programmer and analyst at the University
of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies
Graphics Lab where I have been responsible for our commercially available
High Dynamic Range image processing software, HDR Shop,
and have worked on several image-based research projects
Besides these interests I love to catch people & places in
digital images,
hike and ski in the
mountains, play guitar
and badminton and
make furniture.
